A prophetic parable of the Messianic future (Shofar series part 3)
In ‘Joseph’s cup’ the ancient story of Joseph is presented in a perceptive and sometimes confronting way. Dr. A.A. Leenhouts sees the events of Joseph’s life as a prophetic parable of the Messianic future. The characters appearing in the Joseph story are as ‘living hieroglyphs’ written on the ‘wall’ of history. Notably the ‘theft of the cup of prophecy’, and the related ‘course of action’ which Joseph followed with his brothers as well as the ultimate nature of the measures he took are aptly ‘applied’ to the current state of affairs of the Church and Israel. Furthermore, he is wondering if it would not be wise to put the ancient scrolls of the Joseph story on the table of the current peace negotiations in order to discover, by the wisdom of God, directives for today’s complex political and religious structures.
The author calls upon the churches to do a radical and critical introspection regarding their attitude towards the Jewish people throughout the ages. Among other things, he challenges the thought that the Jewish people – after the birth of Jesus and the establishment of the Church – would no longer play a role in the salvation of mankind. The Church as well as the Jewish people should look at themselves in the ‘mirror’ of the story of Joseph. Joseph’s Cup is the third volume of the Shofar-series.
